“AT EASE”

NEW CD (release November 2009)

Benjamin Koppel is about  to release his CD no. 30 in his own name.

Benjamin is used to attrack major jazzstars - He has recorded and performed with Phil Woods, Charlie Mariano, Kenny Werner, Larry Goldings, Bill Strewart etc.

Now he releases the CD “AT EASE” with the fabulous Bobby Watson

  • backed up with the super band: Kenny Werner (piano), Pierre Boussaguet (bass) and Alex Riel (drums).

“AT EASE” is a real “blowing session” - Five of the greatest musicians - two generations of virtuosos - playing seven of Benjamin Koppels compositions with a musical surplus, creating groovy swinging world jazz.  All the tracks on the album is first takes.

“WALDEN”

NEW DUO CD (release september 2009)

KENNY WERNER & BENJAMIN KOPPEL

Benjamin Koppel & legendary Kenny Werner recorded a lot af music in Copenhagen this spring.  After a long day in the studio with KAK (Koppel/Andersen/Koppel) featuring Kenny Werner the two musicians decided to keep on recording after the rest af the band went home.

The result was the CD “WALDEN” - a conversation for sax and piano.

The title “WALDEN” comes from Henry David Thoreau’s book “Walden, or the life in the woods” from 1854.  And all the titles on the album are all titles from Thoreau’s literary universe.

“Walden” is Benjamin’s second release inspired by a great work of literature.  In 2008 he recorded the album “The Poetic Principle” with Miroslav Vitous to celebrate Edgar Allan Poe’s 200 years anniversary.  An album of which Kenny Werner said “the best jazz record I’ve heard in a decade or two”

Benjamin is now an official reviewer in the danish arts review program “Smagsdommerne” on DR 2.
